Kenneth L. Spruce was appointed Lay Minister of
Volunteers & Services in the Baptist Church in 2014. He was ordained as a Baptist Deacon on April 28, 1989. He was also selected as a Vice-Chairman of the Deacon Board in 1989.


In 1981 Brother Spruce was appointed President of the Usher Board. He was baptized as a Child of Jesus Christ in the Baptist Church on June 7, 1981.


He has held both ecclesiastic & secular leadership positions in his public career. Associate Professor of Political Science being his most formal.

1970 Offered a scholarship opportunity at Maumee Valley

1972 I assisted my mother when she spearheaded the                      development of Macelwane Park

1974 Selected onto the Varsity Baseball Team & graduated             from Jesup W. Scott High School

1976 Elected Student Senator, University of Cincinnati

1977 Selected "Outstanding Student Senator of the Year"

1978 Authored, "The Spruce Report"

1979 Selected Who's Who Among Colleges & Universities.            Won Distinguishes Orator Award

1980 Received Bachelor's Degree from UC

1982 Received Master's Degree from University of Toledo

1984 Established the Jessie Jackson for President                              Campaign Organization

1985 Created "The Study Group"

1988 Selected as one of Toledo's Top 100 Black Leaders

1991 Accepted into Ph.D. Program at Clark Atlanta Univ.

1992 Selected for inclusion into Who's Who Among Black               Americans

1993 Featured on the cover of the Gwinnett Loaf Magazine

1994 Promoted to Assistant Professor of Political Science

1995 Inducted into Who's Who Among African-Americans

1996 Nominated for Induction into The Dictionary of                          International Biography
